Electrical Panel Maintenance
Don’t Wait Until There is a Problem

What Maintenance do you do on a Panel?
Tighten and Lubricate Lugs
This includes lugs on electrical breakers.

And lugs on busbars, neutral and ground.

Whole House Surge Arrester

As can be seen in the picture above, the manufacturer’s warranty is only for 3 years. Surge arresters work on sacrifice technology. This means every time a surge is stopped, a little part of surge arrester is destroyed. Over time, and many little surges, the arrester is at the end of its life.
How Often Should
Panel Maintenance Be Done?
In the standard of National Fire Protection Agency “Standard for Electrical Equipment Maintenance” there is no reference to any period longer than 5 years (60 months)

In heavy industrial or commercial use I believe each year (12 months) maintenance is done.
So, according to the national standard, 5 years is longest referenced.
Could you get away with every 10 years? Possibly, but there it is not recommended.
I have seen countless expensive repairs or replacements of panels needed because of no maintenance.
So, even once every 10 years would be better than never.
